A CARDINAL DAY

It was early this morning just before the cold rains began, and with a nice steaming mug of coffee in hand, I enjoyed watching through the patio doors, a million (maybe not that many) male and female cardinals out in the chicken yard, breast to breast, feather to feather with the hens and rooster. They were all eating and enjoying the feed I had just thrown out to the chickens. It was such a lovely sight that I didn't want to waste a Kodak moment by running to get a camera, so I just stood there enjoying it.

Shortly after that, as I was sitting in my chair meditating in quiet thought and prayer, I glanced up to see a couple of the male cardinals banging on my picture window - trying to get to the cardinals on the lamp in the window. Again, a Kodak moment, but I knew as soon as I got up they would leave, so I just continued to enjoy watching them bounce from the camellia bush to the windowsill. This picture (after they left) doesn't do it justice at all!

But this was all a nice start to a cozy winter day, spent mostly indoors. I did manage to get Christmas put away.... finally. And re-arrange the furniture back to normal. Now the living room feels empty and it's too soon to spring it up with flower. But since this is winter, I'll enjoy the tranquility of the space. And pour another cup of something steamy.

Have a cozy day!
