When an unexpected visit brings loved ones to your door - in the dead of winter and the promise of spring still a long way off - it is surely a cause for great celebration. I’m thinking the fatted calf and glasses of wine. We settled for lunch at Quizno’s and coffee talk at the downtown coffee shop.
During those 4 days of tending 2 babies under 3 years old, cooking and serving meals together, cleaning up messes and tending farm animals, there were those treasured moments of short but spiritually moving mother/daughter conversations, laughing and reminiscing about days gone by, a trip to the department store (without kids) to exchange a Christmas present, and a very pleasant visit with our dear 92 year old Mother/Grandmother, just to mention a few things.
These are the God-sent gifts that keep us going, these unexplained, unplanned blessings that can change the course of your week with one phone call asking, “Can I come over?”.
Then suddenly winter becomes the party and spring becomes the vase of flowers that are left behind on the table as a thank-you gift.
As if one is needed!
