ANOTHER YEAR OF SURRENDER

While most people are busy making their list of New Year's resolutions and getting started on them, I must confess I don’t do resolutions anymore. Setting goals and prioritizing is a good thing, of course, but it isn't the only way to accomplish something. You must find what works best for you. It’s taken years, but I have found that surrendering to God’s will on the journey towards heaven is, in itself, enough for this little heart of mine. It took many, many years to get to this point because like most of us, I wanted to do things my way. My list, my goals, my, my, my. Little by little, I finally let go.
When we make our life about something other than ourselves, it immediately becomes bigger and more important (than ourselves). Our purpose becomes other than ourself. “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord” says Joshua 24:15 in all his wisdom. And so begins the journey of surrender. A little tiny bit each and every day, dying to ourselves and living for our Creator.
Alfred Lord Tennyson said it very well in his famous poem “The Way of the Soul” also known as “In Memoriam”:
“Our wills are ours, we know not how;
Our wills are ours, to make them thine.”
We can only do this by listening and listening to that still small voice inside our heart. For me, that means putting down the books, the phone, turning off the tv, letting the computer collect more dust, and alsas, a little less time in the gardens, to sit in silence. Yes, silence. Then the path becomes more clear, the choices each day become easier and the journey becomes more pleasant, as surrendering turns into joy and joy turns into passion.
HAVE A HAPPY AND BLESSED AND SAFE NEW YEAR
FROM OUR HOME TO YOURS!
