When I was growing up, I remember that my Father would put a pinch of salt in his coffee sometimes. I never knew why.
These long nights, shorter daylight days and cooler temperatures here lately, are messing with my temperament. It makes me want to eat comfort foods and take long naps. Sometimes I get the urge to want to hibernate for the whole winter, like a she-bear.
But then, I remember the servant of the Lord that I am and the family who needs me, the farm animals who count on me, the work of my hands. And I press on. This I do for my Lord. And for the family that I love. And for the critters who make me smile. Then my heart is happy again.
So I pour myself another cup of coffee -- and I add just a pinch of salt. I’m good for another little while, I think.
