NO SMALL FEAT

After years of driving on a quarter of a mile gravel road that only our family has taken responsibility for in the last 30 years, we knew it was time to do some serious overhauling. Ditches were clogged with rocks, neighbors dumping and overflow from pasture soil and weeds. Culverts were mostly demolished from years of overflow and use, and the surrounding pasture terrain, creek and pond overflow made it impossible to keep any gravel that we spilled occasionally on the road and in the potholes from washing immediately away in the first good rain.

With the help of family, the husband commenced to hire bulldozer work to knock out trees, dig out ditches, and replace new culverts and add even more culverts where needed. Then the road was smoothed out and fist-sized gravel was put down in the lowest points of the road. After weeks of “mashing this down” with vehicles, more gravel was put down. A lot more! After this is mashed in, even more will be put down.

Two weeks ago we had 5 inches of rain within one day. There was no flooding!

See? Good things really do happen to those who wait! We are blessed!
